Well we are back in action after too long in Key West.
We left this morning and headed NE toward Tavernier. We got off to a late start because we had to stop in to Oceanside Marina on the east side of Key West. That is where the Yanmar distributer is. We needed to get a couple of fuel filters for the “Iron Jenny” before jumping off to foreign lands. Due to our late start we only made it as far as Marathon. We are anchored just west of Boot Key tonight. Tomorrow we plan on heading on up to Tavernier or Rodriguez Key and spend the night. We will depart Sat AM well before daybreak to head on across to the Great Bahama Bank. It is about 90 miles across the Florida Strait from that angle at that point so we need to get an early start to arrive while there is still daylight. We’ll enter the bank just south of South Riding Rocks and Castle Rock. We’ll probably drop the hook there until daylight. Then it is 60 miles over 12 foot deep crystal clear water to Northwest Channel which is just north of Andros Island. We plan on clearing customs at Chub Cay at the south end of the Berry Islands. Then we’ll island hop on down the Exumas and over to Acklins and the “family” islands. We may stop by Samana Cay also which is where Columbus first made landfall in the new world. Then it is over to Turks and Caicos and across to the Dominican Republic.
We hope to be there before the end of March. We’ll try to keep the website updated along the way whenever we have Interweb access. Keep us in your prayers, we look forward to having lots of interesting things to report.
