Well the time has finally come. We are leaving the USA tomorrow AM. The weather is gonna be great, 10 to 15 knots out of the SSW. We are currently anchored north of Rodriguez Key which is a the south end of Key Largo. The island is part of the John Pennekamp State Park and is a totally undeveloped wooded key. Around sunset, three “jolly boats” full of young people pulled in and are over at the island camping.

Well we are back in action after too long in Key West.

No more sunsets in Key West for us!

We left this morning and headed NE toward Tavernier. We got off to a late start because we had to stop in to Oceanside Marina on the east side of Key West. That is where the Yanmar distributer is. We needed to get a couple of fuel filters for the “Iron Jenny” before jumping off to foreign lands. Due to our late start we only made it as far as Marathon. We have been anchored out at Key West for several days now. It’s an interesting place. The kids have culture shock. It seems to be a very liberal minded place. What freaked them out the most was the guy they saw that had eyebrows tattooed on –rather large, pirate-like eyebrows. There are a lot of people here that seem to wish they were pirates. There are also lots of establishments with bad words in their names–which isn’t something the kids are used to seeing. Most of their experiences are limited to Victoria, Tx (a fairly conservative, family town), and OKC (the buckle of the Bible belt). John says that Key West attracts so many “interesting” people because it’s the end of the road. He said they keep moving down the road looking for a place to fit in, and they all end up here because there is no more road.

The neghborhood

There are lots of VERY cool boats here.
